super héros
A commission of three photos
A collective exhibition
A subject, tolerance in Morocco
Not easy to conceptualise nor to handle
But when we are passionate and surrounded by good people
Beautiful things can happen
And from this aim a series was born
The will to unify the imperfect, the rejected,
Those who differ in heart, nationality, customs and size, appearance, taste and identity Basically, those who suffer from ‘’hogra‘’as we say in my homeland
I looked for places that could shelter my unusual gang
The old slaughterhouse of Casablanca would be perfect
I had already worked on two projects there
The ideal place to begin our journey as a team
We decided to meet on a Saturday morning of February
They arrived sporting their own outfits, they were perfect, nothing to change or remove With barely any guidance, I let them improvise
We laughed, some more relaxed than others decided to change clothes and play along Then we were interrupted, disturbed
We thought we were safe, time had stopped
But this moment of grace was broken by people more ignorant than mean
Real life had caught up with us
Some pictures show faces with heavy frowns of reality
We didn’t let it stop us, we continued, this time we went deeper into the abattoir
Out of sight of irritated onlookers
We had to work quickly, get out of there
They did so with dignity
I have named my series Super Héros
They taught me how to forgive
For this, thank you.
